“Idol” Sings a New Song for Season 6

Sure, Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken can sing… other people’s music. But beginning this year, Fox’s “American Idol” will also be giving one songwriter the chance to hit it big by penning the “Idol” winner’s first single. No more “Do I Make You Proud,” says Billboard: Instead, the Idol will get a brand-new single which supposedly will only have been written by one person. Now, everyone knows the best hit songs are written by Swedish teams under the leadership of eccentric madmen like Max Martin, who is responsible for hits like the Backstreet Boys‘ “I Want It That Way” and Britney Spears‘ “…Baby One More Time,” as well as Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.”

The “Idol” judges also promise more Constantine-style rock singers and more celebrity cameos like last year’s performance by Shakira with Wyclef Jean. No names have been dropped yet — I guess we’ll all just have to watch.
