“Heathers” TV Show Finally Seeing Light of Day
Bravo is developing a TV series about the ’80s cult hit Heathers. The dark teen comedy — which featured then “It Girl” Winona Ryder and a young Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty — is being resurrected for the small screen, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.
Plans for a television series based on the 1988 movie — about young lovers Veronica and J.D. (Ryder and Slater), who take on The Heathers, the most popular clique in school — was first pitched by FOX, Sony and Lakeshore Entertainment in 2009. But it didn’t take long for the proposed show to wind up on the cutting room floor.
Until Bravo stepped in.
Heathers: The Series will be executive produced by Mark Rizzo (The Man Date and Zip) and Jenny Bicks (The Big C and Men In Trees).
The Reporter writes:
“The updated Heathers picks up 20 years later, with Veronica (played by Winona Ryder in the 1989 feature) returning home to Sherwood with her teenage daughter, who must contend with the next generation of mean girls — The Ashleys, who are the daughters of the surviving Heathers.”
