Hayden Panettiere’s character will turn lesbian on NBC’s sci-fi drama Heroes next season, it has been rumored.

The 19-year-old Panettiere will see her screen alter ego, invincible cheerleader Claire Bennet, getting hot and heavy in a same sex romance with her college roommate when season 4 of the action-packed series hits the small screen this fall.

“It’s just girly fun at first,” a source told the Daily Star, “But it might progress into something more serious, it depends how viewers respond.”

I love heroes, I don't understand why so many people think the storyline is worn out at all. What DOES bother me is the fact that nobody stays dead, except for nikki, but then she has a twin that she didn't know about, so she really didn't die, in a way. I was so upset when they killed off adam monroe because he could have been a great villian.

on clarie being les… NO F'N WAY!! I wouldn't agree to it if I were hayden. I still want a peter/claire relationship, even though it isn't possible. The end of season 3 really made me interested, when sylar brought up the fact they were both immortal so they should be together. that's all I have to say about that..

Heroes has been SUPERB so far, but although this seems quite sexy to have this may just be taking this a bit too far. And i agree with equinto stated about Adam Monroe, I always thought of him as a funny character and he would have definately been a brilliant villian but it's the way it goes.

I just hope that it doesn't start to go downhill but the sylar and nathan mix up does seem pretty good although it is obvious he will soon discover what happened. So lets hope and pray…

Heroes is crap, and this is exactly why. They focus too much on the character's personal lives, instead of the action. As a result, they forget about the seemingly-genius plots. Whatever.

What a shame :(

That's great that Claire will be getting a girlfriend! This will technically make her bisexual… rad! I hope they make it real and believable, too… not just "gay in college" or have the sex scenes staged to look like all the fake "lesbian" porn out there. My hopes are probably too high, but this will be a great first step in prime-time, if it happens.

I for one hope that Claire is not written as a lesbian but a bisexual. This would keep the possiblity of a Claire/Sylar relationship in the future open whilst still normalising same-sex relationships (providing it is well executed, of course, and not dropped at the slightest pressure from biggotted ‘fans’).

Seriously? How homophobic can you be? I don't know if you've read about this, equinto, but Hayden suggested the idea herself. :p

The main reason to stop watching Heroes is because of its predictability. Seems obvious that Gretchen and Claire are going to end up involved and Invisible Girl (can't remember her name) is going to rip them apart somehow. I think it seems like a pretty natural progression for the character, because she's never seemed particularly interested in boys.

Hope they do it well and don't make a huge deal about it. Because it shouldn't be. Like echospark said, the whole show is about acceptance and tolerance.

It's not about being homophobic, it's about it turning too much into a soap opera!!!

Unless they can think of a REALLY good way of using this to advance the plot then it's just pointless and stupid. As pointed out in someone's comment, it will probably be the all too typical story where they get really close and then get split apart by some outside influence. Probably some part where one of them has to make a "hard decision" between the world and their partner…

  13. On October 27th 2009, J wrote:

So if Claire has a lesbian relationship with Gretchen, that's "soap opera", but if she gets with Sylar that's not?

And on the moral side of things- how laughable that you moralists would rather see Claire have a relationship with a depraved serial murderer and adulterer (taking over Parkman's body to sleep with his wife), than with a sweet girl who genuinely seems to care about her. Gee, how terrible.

The sad thing I was thinking to myself as I noticed this storyline developing basically as soon as these two met, was that it also felt rather contrived to me- and the reason why it felt that way is because homosexuality is such a big "issue" that addressing the topic starts to seem like a way for a show to manufacture controversy- and it only seems this way because of the hypocritical mores of our supposedly "free" society.

  14. On October 27th 2009, CasualViewer wrote:

    J,

While I do agree with some of what you say, I will say that you should look at the messier side of society.

Morals are more of a subjective matter. This series only began being interesting to with the recent episodes and I don't mind Claire being gay. I seriously don't care. I was surprised at first because Claire struck me as the good girl, straight up, good daughter type person but my jaw dropped at the kiss. It was awesome and that's what I like about this show. If people make a show according to what the mass audience feels is right, then what's keeping the show from being too predictable. I'd rather the show not listen to these drama queens up top.

    On another note..

When you say "free" society, you also have to count social dynamics. Unless the entire society's physical lives change, things outside the box will generally be rejected.

Lets imagine a future generation of a diversified human race. They will still need commonality in order to communicate. This commonality will be considered as the standard and any deviations or anything that seems to conflict with it, will still generally be rejected.

It is because of this commonality that homosexuality is being rejected.

Take a homosexual in a group of straights. The common relationships and social interactions change among the group. The implications of the homosexuality within the group itself changes the whole interaction of either male or female.

One cannot simply relate to them in the same way as others of the same gender.

For men, this creates an especially bad friction. Since men are more than likely to be angry or physical in their rejection and things that "insult" a man is when the existence of someone undermines their self-image of what a man is.

Society's mores are very specific. People either agree or disagree on any definition of free but ultimately, these definitions are controlled by such commonalities.

….Wow…you know what's overdone? Straight romances. Because guess what? They've been done on every show, book and video game since god knows how long. You guys look at this as a gay plotline and such. How about you look at it as a romance? Because quite frankly…that's what it is. Why is it that people never have a fuss about gays until it's in their entertainment? We see straight characters all the time, do we complain that there should be less of them? No, we say nothing and hope that there will at some point be a gay character on the show. We get 1 gay character if we're lucky and then people complain that the shows being ruined. Guess what? There are gay people in real life, I bet every one of you knows a gay person. Do you look at them and say, "You're ruining my life by being there." No, you don't. Unless you are a completely uncouth being that is. Anyways, the fact is, we're people too. But when it comes to being shown as real people, we get flack. Put yourselves in our shoes. What if we were getting upset about Claire suddenly being straight? You'd feel cornered, bullied. I understand that you guys are upset because this is out of left field but really…are you going to take away us being recognized? And hell! This is only a bisexual character and you're freaking out. She's not even gay! You guys might say you're not homophobic but you know what?

You sure do seem like it.

Why does it even matter if Claire has a same-sex relationship? Obviously most of the viewers are not getting the point of the show-to accept those who are different! How about you try being a little less homophobic and a little more open-minded? If you're going to stop watching one of your favorites shows just because you disagree with a minor plot line, you must not have been too dedicated to it before. You don't stop watching your favorite series just because suddenly there's a small possibility of a bisexual main character. It's laughable that so many Americans even think that this is a big deal. I thought we were all about change and being more open-minded from now on. Or have we forgotten about all of that now? Are we reverting back to our self-destructive and conservative ways?

Attention: Heroes is not going to be ruined as a result of a bisexual/gay plotline! It will still be the same amazing show-if not better! I look more forward to watching the series after Monday's episode!

This is no reason to stop watching it of course. It's still an amazing series. The story never specified that it would be people saving other peoples' lives, though some of them do.

I personally do not care if she's lesbian, but it's just not logical for her to magically turn lesbian after being interest in boys and only boys her whole life. The story could have stayed the same without her friend kissing Claire, therefore I call this a desperate move for ratings.

Why??? Those of you in the gay/lesbian community have the right to your 'open minded' opinion but as soon as anyone disagrees with you they must be 'closed minded.' I am so sick and tired of this new thought process and how it is infiltrating every aspect of society.

Here it is – we ALL get to form our own opinions as individuals. So why am I to be ashamed of my opinion? I do not dislike the people of the gay/lesbian community. I do however disagree with their lifestyle. Under that personal opinion I do not surround myself with those who are gay/lesbian. I also chose by my own free will to not watch shows, movies, or other media which 'normalizes' those relationships. So I get a label 'closed minded' or 'homophobe' hmmm this is of concern because I fear next I could be labeled for my opinion of where I CHOOSE to live. Am I a 'suburbiphobe'? I also don't like cable, uh-oh I am one those 'cableiphobes.' I have know some people who don't like dogs, you know the type 'canineiphobes'. Sorry that probably gets my point across and I know some of those phobias are real although I did not look for the proper terms.

So can we all please just stop with the 'you must be a homophobe' crap. We have opinions have opinions that differ and that is our right as individual humans. Personaly I think life in general on this earth would suck if we thought the same things.

Anyhow just take minute and think about why those of us who disagree should be labeled as the 'closed minded'.

    Thanks for listening.

Existing doesn't count as shoving our opinions down your throat. Wanting to be recognized as a valid member of society doesn't count as shoving our opinions down your throat. Wanting to see relationships we personally have the ability to connect with doesn't count as shoving our opinions down your throat. Wanting to see a gay/lesbian relationship in a mature context that lasts for more than a single make-out/threesome scene does not count as shoving our opinions down your throat. Wanting to not be marginalized or written out of the script because a small group of people who isolate themselves from anyone that contradicts their personal view of morality does not count as shoving our opinions down your throat.

But telling people that they're entire existence doesn't merit a single storyline that probably won't outlast half a season of Heroes because people like you are horrified by it? Well. I wonder what you call that.

    @ All the Claire/Sylar fans

As you can see, she's more likely to fall for a woman than a psychopathic serial killer who also happens to be struggling with the mind of the man he murdered. And you disgust me for thinking she would.

@ that guy who wanted her to end up with Peter.

    Ew.

And as far as this plot-line being out of left-field. It isn't. Let's not forget, Claire hasn't stated one way or the other if she actually wants to be with Gretchen. There is an interest and an obvious attraction, but any lesbian can tell you that doesn't always lead to happy endings. If it is, the writers are taking their time to develop a romance. If not, it'll end like a lot of college lesbian relationships. Why don't we wait and see how it turns out.

Having that said, the only reason a TV show would include hot button issues (e.g. abortion, gay, etc.). would be to push secret agendas or stir up talk. I believe it is the former and as a result, I will hit them where it hurts which is avoiding their commercial sponsors.

We can love gay people without being accepting of their lifestyles. A gay lifestyle will not bring happiness, any more than sleeping around, or cheating on your wife. Just ask anyone who is gay. It makes for a hard life. If you believe homosexuality is wrong, it doesn't make you a homophobe or closed minded.

We all have our issues… some people have this one. We need to work through our problems, change and try to do better… telling someone it's okay to continue down the wrong path doesn't make us true friends regardless of the "issues" they are having – straight or gay.

I just don't see the logic in making her character gay. This imo is just (like someone already said) a desperate attempt for ratings. I don't see any possible plot progression by making her fall in love with some random chick. Maybe if she had powers or in some way was killed by the baddie and caused claire to go crazy and unleash some new power. But I'm just very dissapointed at the general plot progression of heroes. With a story about random heroes, there is just so much potential there that is being undertold. Honestly the writers seem to be some of the most uncreative storytellers I've seen in tv in a while. Having a mild personality trait be the focus of plot development is just obsurd imo. Hell the biggest problem I've seen with the series is that the writers have no backbone. Decide to kill someone and bring them back or change around powers or completely drop storylines because there were a few complaints. Word of advice to the writers. Use your own imagination and do what you feel you would be interested in. There are always goin to be ppl who hate your ideas. But that's what makes them yours. Don't change your feelings and your thoughts around just because some people said they didn't like it. Tell the story. If ppl like it then they like it. But you will build more devoted fans if you have a story that follows it's plotline to fruition. As far as claire being lez.Think about priorities and work on the main plot. It's obvious that your in need of ideas. So work on that. When you have a solid main story, then think about the details of the character's personal lives. When that happens you'll win me back over as a fan. But in recent episodes I just catch myself gritting my teeth through another hour long episode in hopes of being able to follow the story that will eventually get interesting. I understand writer's block, but when the story gets good again I will be a fan again. Till then. It's back to something else. Hope you consider some of my thoughts and think about it.

anyway, it isn’t a big deal for me if claire would have a relationship with gretchen..actually perceived them as cute being together:)
and it really shocked me i watched the episode when gretchen admitted that she has a crush on claire especially when she kissed claire on the lips.and that’s the time ive being more interested on claire..and finally being a great fan of her..she’s really doing a great job..:)

anyway, we have our own perception regarding the scene.

Okay! So yes I think the Les Bo thing is absoulutly insane for her charecter. But it’s true that I expected that much from greaten. As for peter and Claire. HELLO! He is her friking uncle! Although off screen would have been good.
As for sylar. I had my hopes. In till I remembered that all of Nathen (claires father) memories were in his head. So wouldn’t that be even worse than haveing a relashonship with ur uncle?????

What do you think?
