TV Guide mentions that Halle Berry has admitted that after her failed marriage with baseball player David Justice, she was so shaken apart that she considered ending her life. She says she was sitting in her car with the gas running, waiting for the fumes to kill her when she suddenly thought of her mother having to find her like that.

After remembering everything her mother had sacrificed, Halle realized how terrible the suicide would be, and referred to it as “an incredibly selfish thing”. Halle also says, “My sense of worth was so low [that] I had to reprogram myself to see the good in me. I promised myself I would never be a coward again.”
