In a statement to The Associated Press, Madonna’s longtime publicist, Liz Rosenberg, has confirmed that the singer and husband Guy Ritchie are divorcing after eight years of marriage.

“Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time,” the statement read.

The split news comes on the heels of a summertime scandal that accused the pop legend of sleeping with New York Yankee star Alex Rodriquez, who divorced his wife just last month.
