So long, Guitar Hero! After six years of bringing the World of Musical Video Games to The Living Rooms of Average Joes and Janes, Guitar Hero was formally axed by its publishers on Wednesday. Activision Blizzard — which also created World Of Warcraft, Call Of Dut — is halting production on the popular music game, along with approximately 500 people from it’s global workforce of 7,000.
A pop culture must-have following its debut in 2005, Guitar Hero has become an “unprofitable product” for Activision over the past year, according to the company.
“In retrospect it was a $3 billion or more business that everybody needed to buy, so they did, but they only needed to buy it once It’s much like ‘Wii Fit.’ Once you have it, you don’t need to buy another one,” an analyst explains.
