Out with The Hobbit. In with The Haunted House!
After pulling out of plans to direct the eagerly-anticipated Lord of the Rings spinoff The Hobbit, Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro has announced that he will co-write, produce, and helm a remake of Disney’s 2003 film The Haunted Mansion.
This is Disney’s second stab at the flick, which was inspired by its theme park ride. Eddie Murphy starred in the first crack.
“It’s going to be a thrill ride for the whole family, but it’s definitely going to be scary,” del Toro told The Hollywood Reporter Friday. “Walt Disney is one of the creators of some of the scariest images in my childhood. People forget that he not only made sweet images but also images of nightmare. We need to honour that side of the legacy,” he added.
