Gossip Girl Clothing Line Dropped By Target
Producers of television’s cult hit Gossip Girl are furious after bosses at cheapie retail chain Target scrapped plans to sell a clothing line inspired by the show’s out of control teen characters.
A source close to the deal tells The New York Daily News, “One of Target’s top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the (debauchery) its characters get into.”
The CW’s Gossip Girl has attracted millions of fans with its controversial storylines featuring privileged teenagers drinking, sexing, and taking drugs. The collection designed by Anna Sui would have featured the skits, blazers, and stylish tops frequently sported by socialites Blair and Serena on the show.
“There was going to be signage (at the party), as well as Target symbols in purple and black – Anna’s signature colors. And it was rumoured that Anna herself was going to be making a cameo appearance. The crew was thrown into a frenzy because they had to scrap everything they had planned. They can’t believe Target would bail on them, especially after publicly announcing the collaboration.”
