Get ready for American Idol for The Chef Sect: Gordon Ramsay is casting for a new cooking show that will offer amateur chefs who “cook well despite never having been formally trained” a chance at acclaim on the pots and pans circuit. Contestants in Ramsay’s other cooking competition show, Hell’s Kitchen, are usually professionals.

“We will NOT be considering professional chefs who work in professional kitchens!” reads a casting notice that went up over the weekend. Producers are staging auditions in 12 cities around the country starting in early January.

The show, entitled Master Chef, is already popularin Britain and Australia.
