Glenn Beck has been hospitalized with an attack of appendicitis.

The attack came right in the middle of Beck’s radio show on Wednesday afternoon. The controversial FOX News commentator began complaining on the air that he wasn’t feeling well and shortly after left his co-host, Pat Grey, to finish the program. He was taken by car to an unnamed Manhattan hospital where he underwent an emergency appendectomy.

Christopher Balfe, the president of Mercury Radio where Glenn’s program airs, joked that “before going under, Glenn asked the doctor to draw out the surgery procedure on a blackboard.”

He is expected to return to work next week.
