“Glee” Star Heather Morris’ Bruised & Battered Photoshoot Prompts Allegations Of “Glamorizing Violence”
Another week, another controversial photoshoot for TV’s Emmy-winning musical-comedy Glee.
Gleek Heather Morris is under fire from anti-domestic violence activists for sporting a faux black eye in a provocative new photoshoot snapped by shutterbug Tyler Shields.
Perhaps best known as the guy who never misses an opportunity to photographed Lindsay Lohan wielding a 10 in. blade.
In the images, Morris, who plays Brittany S. Pierce on the hit TV show, is seen biting an electrical cord and posing with an iron and an ironing board — with a dark purple bruise over one eye.
“In no way were we promoting domestic violence,” Shields tells E! “We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot and that’s exactly what we did!”
But Rita Smith of National Coalition Against Domestic Violence says the pictures could send a dangerous message.
“I don’t know if Tyler is aware, but I’m quite sure there are plenty of women who have been abused by these kinds of household appliances, and children as well being hit with electrical cords,” Smith argues. “I’m not sure what the purpose is other than shock value. [They] do make it look appealing, as if she might be enjoying the process, and I don’t think that’s helpful. But there is nothing glamorous about violence, and I think the real photos of Rihanna [after being beaten by Chris Brown in 2009] would show that it’s not a beautiful thing that happens to you.”
