Giuliana Rancic apologizes to Zendaya

Obviously Giuliana Rancic  is in need of an extreme attitude makeover this season on E!’s Fashion Police. Suddenly she has started throwing daggers like never before. Maybe the reason for her sharp tongue is that she is trying to fill the shoes of the late Joan Rivers, if this is the case, it’s not working.

On Monday’s post-Oscars episode, Rancic made a remarkably offensive statement about 18-year-old Zendaya‘s look for the Oscars, and was deservedly called out for it.

At first, Rancic explained that Zendaya’s dreadlocks were too much for the actress-singer’s tiny build, which was fair enough. Yet she didn’t stop there, she continued criticizing Rancic by saying that it looked like her hair smelled like “patchouli oil” or “weed.”

Zendaya publicly posted a long statement to Rancic in response to her statement, prompting an apology from the Fashion Police host.

In the light of Zendaya’s statement Rancic is taking ownership of her mistakes. On Tuesday, the E! correspondent and Fashion Police co-host, gave  a public apology on E! News to Zendaya.

“I’d really like to address something that’s weighing very heavy on my heart,” she began. “I want to apologize for a comment that I made on last night’s Fashion Police about Zendaya’s hair.”

“Something I said last night did cross the line,” Rancic continued, without actually quoting herself. “I didn’t intend to hurt anybody, but I’ve learned it’s not my intent that matters, it’s the result.”

Rancic not only made a public apology, she also tweeted directly to Zendaya.  The ramifications of her statements are still obviously on her mind. “This really has been a learning experience for me, I’ve learned a lot today,” she said. “And this incident has taught me to be a lot more aware of cliches and stereotypes, how much damage they can do. And that I am responsible, as we all are, to not perpetuate them further.”
