Getting A’s At Any Price
The college students of today have access to many study aids that simply weren’t available in the past. Social media creates instant chat rooms and forums to do cooperative learning. Students can gather online to study for that latest test. The Internet provides a flood of helpful information that can save students a trip to the library. All well and good as they become accustomed to speedy results. However, students have turned to another trend when it comes to speed. They’re relying on prescription stimulants to give them the energy they need to make it through their studies and it’s a deadly price to pay.
Why Choose Stimulants?
Choosing stimulants is nothing new for the college student who is stretched too thin, working, studying, and partying. The nicotine in cigarettes and the caffeine in coffee have been the stimulants of choice in the past. Unfortunately, modern day students have found a faster, more powerful fix. take these stimulants without a doctor’s guidance, they are breaking the law and taking serious risks. They have no way of knowing if the dosage is appropriate or if there will be any adverse effects due to underlying conditions. They can easily become addicted, hooked on the drugs and needing more to get through each day. In the end, dramatic personality changes can occur. Seizures and heart problems are common as well. A stimulant overdose can actually lead to cardiac arrest. What good are good grades if students wind up in the morgue?
