ABC News is expected to reveal George Stephanopoulos as the new anchor of Good Morning America on the nation’s second top-ranked morning show Thursday.

George will replace departing GMA anchor Diane Sawyer. Sawyer begins solo anchor duties at World News on December 21, taking over for Charles Gibson — who announced his retirement in September.

Stephanopoulos, 48, is a former political adviser to the administration of President Bill Clinton. After leaving the White House, he took roles co-hosting ABC News coverage of political events and appeared regularly on ABC News shows, including his Sunday news program This Week.

He’ll reportedly begin his new gig alongside co-host Robin Roberts on Monday, Dec. 14. Stephanopoulos is expected to continued hosting This Week “for the foreseeable future.”
