George Clooney President Obama Meeting
George Clooney is about to rub elbows with a public figure whose even more famous than his own. The U.N. Messenger of Peace is scheduled to have a discussion with President Barack Obama on the crisis in Darfur next week.
In a segment featured on The TODAY Show Friday, NBC’s Anne Curry caught up with George in Chad, Africa, where the star was visiting a camp of refugees.
So what will one of the world’s most handsome men talk about when he comes face to face with the leader of the free world?
“We want [the president] to appoint a high-level, full-time diplomat [to negotiate for a peace treaty in the war-torn Darfur region],” George explained to Ann.
“I think it’s a completely different definition of hope. I think the bar is considerably lower here. I think that ‘Hope’ here means hoping to get through the night or hoping to get through the week.”
“I was here three years ago and in some ways there’s not a whole lot of difference,” he added. “It’s sort of status quo. The problem is that the status quo is unacceptable.”
