John Ingle, who has played millionaire Edward Quartermaine on the ABC soap opera General Hospital since 1992, died Sunday “after a courageous battle with cancer.”
He was 84.
The Ingle Family made the announcement in a posting on Facebook:
“Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts.”
Series executive producer Frank Valenti also confirmed the actor’s death via Twitter:
“With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle’s passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family.”
Ingle taped his final appearance on G.H. on Aug. 24. The episode aired Sept. 11.
Sudster writers are expected to work the death into the daily daytime drama. The Edward character was last seen surviving a murder plot by a madman, who planted a pathogen in the Port Charles water supply. An anti-serum was administered before the upstate New York enclave was wiped out.
