Futurama will return to the small screen six years after it was yanked off the air, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Comedy Central has ordered a 26 new episodes of the sci-fi animated show — which ran on Fox from 1999 to 2003 — after the show made a successful showing in DVD sales.

The new Futurama will premiere in 2010.

“There is nothing like new, self-contained episodes week to week,” David Bernath, of Comedy Central, tells the trade magazine. “This is all about reinvigorating the franchise, giving it a new burst of energy.”
