Frat Film “Stomps” to Number One-Sinks “Night at the Museum”

“Stomp the Yard,” a film about Historically Black Colleges and the stepping frat scene, debuted at Number One at the box office sending Ben Stiller and his monkey in “Night at the Museum” down to Number Two for the first time since it’s opening weekend four weeks ago.

Other than “Stomp,” MLK Weekend was a dud for premiering films. Justin Timberlake’s well-received performance in the lukewarm action-drama, “Alpha Dogs” debuted at a disappointing Number 7, dragging in just $6.1 million.
Disney’s “Primeval,” a thriller with Dominic Purcell and Orlando Jones as part of a news crew pursuing a prolific serial killer made it debut at No. 8 earning $6 million. Check out this weekend’s entire Top Ten:

4. “Dreamgirls,” $8.1 million.

8. “Primeval,” $6 million.
9. “Arthur and the Invisibles,” $4.3 million.
10. “The Good Shepherd,” $3.9 million.
