Former “Late Show” Staffer Nell Scovell Slams Letterman’s Sex-Charged Work Environment
A former staffer on the Late Show With David Letterman admits she left her job after less than a year because of the “sexual politics” in the hostile work environment.
Last month, an extortion plot forced Dave to admit on-air that he has had sex with a number of women who work for him.
Nell Scovell — who created the hit TGIF series Sabrina, The Teenage Witch — worked on Late Show for a year, before going to write for Charmed and NCIS. She says a number of women romantically-linked to Letterman wielded an unfair amount of power over other employees, creating a chilly climate behind the scenes. “Did I believe these female staffers were benefiting professionally from their personal relationships? Yes. Did that make me feel demeaned? Completely,” Scovell writes on VanityFair.com.
Scovell doesn’t confirm direct knowledge of Letterman’s sexual relationships, but says she was “aware of rumors.” Scovell writes, “Dave summoned me to his office and pressed me on why I was quitting the show. I considered telling him the truth, but with Dave’s rumored mistress within earshot, I balked.”
She says she’s speaking out for the first time because she wants “Dave to hire some qualified female writers and treat them with respect.”
“Now, I don’t want a lawsuit. I don’t want compensation. I don’t want revenge. I don’t want Dave to go down,” she says.
