Former “American Idol” Contestant Alexis Cohen Killed (Hit-And-Run)
A 25-year-old former American Idol contestant was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver off the Jersey Shore on Saturday.
Alexis Cohen, of Allentown, Pa., was killed early Saturday in Seaside Heights, NJ, The Ashbury Park Press reports.
Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutors Office says she suffered chest, head, and abdominal injuries after colliding with an out of control vehicle. Her car was found parked 300 yards away.
Alexis Cohen auditioned for the popular FOX singing competition in Philadelphia in August 2007. Her ill-fated performance of Jefferson Airplane’s “Want Somebody To Love” led to an angry and obscenity-laced rant at the judges. The meltdown made Alexis a viral smash, while her use of sparkly makeup led to fans calling the singer “Glitter Girl.” She tried out for Idol again during the show’s eighth season, but was turned away.
In recent months, Alexis had been working on her career as a stand-up comedienne, even posting a practice video on her MySpace page.
