For Those Who Care: DC Comics Killed Robin the Boy Wonder
Batman’s losing his sidekick — wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened. But the blogosphere is abuzz over reports that Boy Wonder Robin will be killed battling a brutal enemy in Wednesday’s issue of the Batman Incorporated comic book. This particular incarnation of Robin is known as Damian Wayne, the 10-year-old illegitimate son of billionaire Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Talia, the stunning daughter of villain Ra’s al Ghul.
Writer Grant Morrison spilled the beans on the controversial storyline in a chat with The Los Angeles Times Monday:
“He saves the world. He does his job as Robin. He dies an absolute hero.”
DC Comics, which publishes the Batman series, has posted an essay penned by Morrison, which confirms Robin’s looming demise.
“In many ways this has been Damian’s story as much as it has been the story of Bruce Wayne and it’s a story that had its end planned a long time ago — for what son could ever hope to replace a father like Batman, who never dies?”
