First Look at Trailer for ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ [WATCH]

New from the world of Lionsgate and things Jane Austen would laugh at: the film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a book that explores the not-so-wide divide between the cutthroat world of Regency society and zombies, a metaphor for the old-fashioned ideals Elizabeth Bennet and her progressive sisters try to break down.

Just kidding: it’s just the text of Pride and Prejudice with zombie battles carefully inserted. But we’re not judgin’, because this trailer looks awesome.

The release of the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was polarizing, with many scoffing at such a ridiculous adaptation of the classic novel, beloved by so many. But the action seems like it relates perfectly to the silver screen, and we’re excited to see the prim world of Austen infiltrated by the undead.

The project gained attention when it was revealed that Natalie Portman would both produce the film and star as Elizabeth Bennet. However, she backed out of the lead role, instead handing the torch to Lily James, and staying on as producer.

The cast for such a strange movie is pretty stellar: joining Lily James as Elizabeth is Matt Smith (Mr. Collins), Suki Waterhouse (Kitty Bennet), and Bella Heathcote (Jane Bennet), among others. Despite the strange subject matter, I have to admit that it’s pretty satisfying to see Regency women wielding weapons.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is slated for a US release on February 5, 2016.
