White House First Dog Bo–Introducing Obama Puppy
The First Puppy has been revealed. Meet Bo, a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog, who will join his new family at The White House later this week.
The Obamas’ long-awaited pooch will be presented the public on Tuesday, The Washington Post has learned.
The pup is a gift from Senator Edward M. Kennedy–a PWD owner himself– who acquired the dog from another home.
“We couldn’t be happier to see the joy that Bo is bringing to Malia and Sasha. We love our Portuguese Water Dogs and know that the girls — and their parents — will love theirs too,” the Massachusetts senator told the Post in the statement Sunday.
First Daughters Malia and Sasha reportedly chose the name as a reference their cousins’ cat. “Bo” is also a tribute to their late maternal grandfather, who was nicknamed Diddley–as in rock n’ roll legend Bo Diddley.
He’s so cute!
