Enter the Red Room! The Thursday morning rush brought our first look at the long-awaited (and hotly-anticipated) trailer for the cinema adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling erotic tome, Fifty Shades of Grey.
It was a long…sometimes…rocky road to the final cut for the Fifty Shades of Grey production.
It’s not the first drama to come from the Fifty Shades production. Hollywood studios battled it out to win the rights to the literary phenomenon before Universal and Focus Features secured the rights in March 2012. After a lengthy search for the right director and cast, Sam Taylor-Johnson won the directing gig in June 2013. Heartthrob Ryan Gosling and screen star Garrett Hedlund both rejected the role of fetishist businessman Christian Grey.
Last September, Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam was cast as Christian, but dropped out due to “scheduling conflicts.” He was swiftly replaced by actor-model Jamie Dornan. More controversy (and an online petition) followed when celebuspawn Dakota Johnson — daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith — beat out Alexis Bledel for the role of mousy coed Anastasia Steele.
As things often do in Hollywood, the casting furor eventually died down. Now, finally, Fifty Shades enthusiasts have their trailer. But does it live up to your expectations?
Grey will open in cinemas on Valentine’s Day (How fitting!) 2015.
