Fergie Leaving The Black Eyed Peas: Is Ashanti Her Replacement?

Remember when we told you that Grammy-winning hip-poppers The Black Eyed Peas planned to take a hiatus following the release of their most recent album?

Yeah, well according to a new scoop floating around the Interwebs, it’s actually Fergie who’s going on an extended vacation. She’s planning to take an indefinite leave of absence after BEP’s last scheduled show on Nov. 23.

And guess who’s replacing her…

No contracts have been signed just yet, but according to MediaTakeOut.com (Yeah, we know…) it looks like R&B princess Ashanti may be the newest group member.

“The group had been looking for a replacement for some time. Ashanti was reportedly brought onto the group’s WORLD TOUR – as sort of an AUDITION, to see if she could work with the band – and it worked out PERFECTLY!!”

“The group has been looking for a replacement for some time,” a top music industry executive chimed in.

Peas star Taboo recently told The New York Times that Fergie has been wanting to take a break from the band so that she can focus on starting a family with her husband, actor Josh Duhamel.

“We have to respect Fergie. Fergie is our sister. She definitely wants to have a family and we’re happy for her,” he said.

There will reportedly be an official announcement about Fergie’s departure and the arrival of Ashanti sometime later this month.
