‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Logo Revealed, Plus Its Embedded Clues

fantastic-beasts-logo-wideThe brand new movie “From J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World” now has a brand new logo, echoing the metallic lettering on black logos of the eight Harry Potter movies.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who finds himself overstaying his short trip to New York City. The movie is based on an original screenplay by J.K. Rowling, as well as a short book she penned to mimic one of Harry Potter’s schoolbooks at Hogwarts.

The new logo is beautiful, and it also may reveal some plot details, or at the very least, some clues as to which fantastic beasts are specifically going to appear in the new film!

From the graphic above, it’s clear that the lettering is inspired by dragons, and the graphic below shows some droplets of what could be water splashed on the surface of the metallic lettering. Whatever that means, it’s obvious that there will definitely be a dragon flying through New York City during the Roaring Twenties. I hope.

The Pottermore website that released the logo also had some explanations about its gorgeous design:

‘If you think of Harry Potter, that logo instantly comes into your mind: the lightning bolt ‘P’ and the shape of the words. So we wanted this one to feel like it was born of that same world. We were trying to come up with something that drafted similarly off that iconography but in a new way. In a Fantastic Beasts way.’

So what about the beasts which inspired them? The designers remain tight-lipped on potential spoilers, but can reveal that the ’S’ was inspired by a creature that does appear in the film.

‘The logo is a blend of beasts, it’s not just one takeaway. When we arrived on idea for the ’S’ it excited us. So we thought there must be a way to accent these other letters with claws or ribs — hints to other beasts, while this one is the logo’s centrepiece.’

The new movie is currently filming. Set in the Jazz Age in New York City, it’ll be interesting to see how the visual combines art deco, 20s culture, and the Wizarding World into one magic film. There are some hints that tomorrow will carry even further information about this movie, so stay tuned.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is slated for release on November 18, 2016.
