A conservative family values group has a bone to pick with daytime gabber Ellen DeGeneres.
OneMillionMoms.com has instructed its supporters to petition against Ellen DDeGeneres, after the openly gay TV show host was named the new spokesmodel for JCPenney department store.
The group — which famously spoke out against the debut of the TLC soap Sister Wives — is demanding Ellen be replaced by someone who’s not gay, claiming shoppers will be put off by her untraditional image.
A statement on the site reads:
“Funny that JC Penny thinks hiring an open homosexual person will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families.DeGeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JC Penny shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there.”
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has come out fighting in support of DeGeneres.
“While designated hate groups try to start ‘culture wars,’ it’s clear that a vast majority of Americans today support Ellen as well as their LGBT friends and family members,” Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs and Communications told Radar Online Wednesday.
“Selecting an out performer who has inspired and entertained millions, is not only a smart business practice, but a reflection of how LGBT Americans today are an integral and valued part of the fabric of our culture.”
