EW Enchants Us With 4 Collector Covers Featuring Disney’s ‘Into The Woods’
Director Rob Marshall (Chicago) has taken the reigns of Disney’s Into The Woods, based on one of Broadway’s most beloved Stephen Sondheim musicals, and has gathered a group of A-list actors to lure us into several fairytale stories that we are all familiar with but with some twists.
In this weeks Entertainment Weekly, 4 different covers are featured each with its own fairytale story: Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) & Prince Charming (Chris Pine), Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy) & The Witch (Meryl Streep), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford) & The Big Bad Wolf (Johnny Depp), and the two characters who lead us into the woods in the first place The Baker (James Corden) & The Baker’s Wife (Emily Blunt).
Into The Woods is story about a witch who conspires to teach important lessons to various characters of popular children’s stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel.
On Marshall’s new fairytale adaption:
“I didn’t want this to look like a cartoon world. It’s not sunny, sunny, sunny—we wanted a sense of danger.”
On Meryl accepting the role as The Witch:
“I’ve been offered many witches over the years, starting when I was 40, and I said no to all of them. But this was really fun because it played with the notion of what witches mean. They represented age and ugliness and scary powers we don’t understand. So here’s my opportunity to say, here’s what you wish for when you’re getting old.”
