Estelle Getty Tribute Lifetime “The Golden Girls” Marathon July 25
“Picture it: Sicily, 1917. A man in a wheelchair satisfies a woman. It’s a short story, but I think it proves my point.”
Lifetime will honor the late Estelle Getty with a Golden Girls Marathon this Friday, July 25 from 12-5 p.m. Ms. Getty, well-known for her hilarious portrayal of acid-tongued Italian “Sophia Petrillo” on the Emmy-winning series, died at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Friday would have been her 85th birthday.
Lifetime will air ten episodes centered around our beloved Sophia. The final episode of the marathon will be the “Best Sophia Episode” as voted by fans at myLifetime.com.
Hopefully they will play “The Days And Nights Of Sophia Petrillo,” in which Sophia goes out for a nectarine and spends an exciting day hanging out around Miami and volunteering at the local hospital.
Or how about Season One’s “The Triangle,” when Dorothy forced Sophia to see a doctor, complaining that her mother was looking flushed and had “no color.”
Sophia sharply replied: “I’m an old White woman, I’m not supposed to have color. You want color, talk to Lena Horne!”
