“Epic” Tops The Weekend Box Office

“Epic Movie,” a lampoon of Paris Hilton and several MTV shows, topped the weekend box office earning $19.2 million dollars in it’s opening weekend.

“Smokin’ Aces,” a Mafia comedy featuring the acting debut of Alicia Keys, sailed into second place despite a rocky reception from critics. The film earned $14.3 million.
“Night at the Museum,” held steadily to the Number Three spot-taking in another $9.5 million to boost its six-week total to $217 million. “Catch and Release,” the latest acting effort from Mrs. Ben Affleck was No. 4, and “Stomp the Yard” from Sony/Screen Gems came in fifth after enjoying two weeks at Number One.
Four Oscar nominated films rounded out the Top Nine: Paramount’s “Dreamgirls” was No. 6, Sony’s “The Pursuit of Happyness” was No. 7, “Pan’s Labyrinth” from Picturehouse was No. 8 and Miramax’s “The Queen” was No. 9.
