Emotional Michael Phelps earns final Gold; Says Goodbye to Olympic Games
For 12 years, Michael Phelps, has been the face of American Swimming and yesterday, he said goodbye.
Phelps, who was joined by Olympic stars, Matt Grevers, Brendan Hansen and Nathan Adrian for his final shot at a medal in his storied career. Finishing 3 seconds ahead of Japan and Australia, Phelps claimed his 22nd Olympic Medal. Phelps earned an astonishing 22 medals, 18 of them gold in Athens, Beijing and now these current London Games.
Phelps was overcome with tears as he exited the pool, saying that he wants to go out on top of his sport. Later in an NBC interview with Bob Costas, Phelps confirmed he may be at the Rio games, just sitting and watching.
