Ellen DeGeneres Gifts Inspiring Waitress with Surprise of a Lifetime
We’ll be calling her Ellen DeGenerous from now on!
Ellen DeGeneres is known for helping out deserving guests on her eponymous show, but her latest gift has especially moved fans. The Emmy-winning talk show host surprised a single mother whose good deed went viral on Facebook with a $10,000 check when she appeared on Ellen Friday.
When Ellen heard how Good Samaritan Sarah Hoidahl picked up a $27.75 lunch tab for a pair of National Guard soldiers, who hadn’t received their paychecks due the shutdown of the federal government, the daytime queen invited Hoidahl on her show to thank her in person.
Hoidahl told DeGeneres:
“It just got me thinking, ‘Geez, that’s really difficult.’ I’m a waitress and a single mother. I know how it is.”
When the two women had finished their meals, Hoidahl, 22, didn’t bring them the check but a note that read:
“Thanks to the government shutdown the people like you that protect this country are not getting paid, however I still am. Lunch is on me thank you for serving ladies! Have a good day!”
During the appearance, Ellen surprised the generous server with a check worth $10,000, a 50-inch TV — and $27.75 in cash, to cover the original bill.
