Oscar-nominated actress Elisabeth Shue has signed on to “CSI,” replacing departing longtime cast member Marg Helgenberger.

The 48-year-old Shue, known for movies like “Adventures in Babysitting,” “The Karate Kid,” “Cocktail,” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” will make her first appearance on the CBS drama in February of 2012. Her character has a history with D.B. Russell, played by Ted Danson, and arrives fresh from taking an anger management course.

In a statement, “CSI” executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said:

“While it’s difficult to say goodbye to a beloved character like [Helgenberger’s] Catherine Willows, it’s exciting to start a journey with a new CSI, especially when that character is played by Elisabeth Shue. The new CSI also struggles with ‘brutal honesty issues’ and suffers no fools.”
