Edward James Olmos is a veteran actor who has had numerous roles and already a couple in the sci-fi genre. However, he considers his new role on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD to be one of the highlights of his career, which is certainly saying something
Olmos feels good about his character and also wants to assure fans that although he and SHIELD director Phil Coulson appear to be on different sides, they are still working toward the same thing.
In one of the new roles recently introduced on the show, he plays Robert Gonzales, the leader of the “real SHIELD” who is working against Coulson to restore order to the organization that was once respected around the world, but is now flawed thanks to the events that happened with they were infiltrated by Hydra.
Edward James Olmos was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Stand And Deliver, but he is perhaps best known to younger audiences and fans of the geek genre for his roles in Battlestar Galactica and Blade Runner.
In a recent interview with E! News, he said, “I’m so grateful they were confident enough in me to let me portray this character, especially since he’s Gonzales. What he represents and what he means is huge. This is going to be one of the high points of my career.”
There is no doubt that joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe can help boost anyone’s career as Anthony Mackie might tell you after being cast as Olympic runner Jesse Owens following his role as Falcon in the Captain America films. Olmos is clearly excited to be on board with Marvel when saying things like “S.H.I.E.L.D. is life and life is S.H.I.E.L.D. Without S.H.I.E.L.D., there is no life.”
There is no doubt that there will be some serious drama going down between Gonzales and Coulson when the two of them finally meet and Coulson realizes that he is not the only one in charge of SHIELD.
Edward James Olmos and the rest of the SHIELD team can be seen on Tuesdays at 9 pm.
