Try this on for size: You, me, Eddie Murphy, and the 2012 Oscars?
Whaddya say? Is it a date?
The funnyguy famously stormed out of the 2007 Academy Awards after he failed to snag the Best Supporting Actor gong for his role in the movie musical Dreamgirls — but Eddie could get another shot in the spotlight on Tinseltown’s biggest night.
If Brett Ratner has anything to say about it, that is.
The lensman behind the Rush Hour franchise has been tipped as a producer at next year’s and he’s convinced that Eddie is just the guy to follow in the footsteps of great Oscars Hosts Past: Think Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ellen DeGeneres. Eddie’s appointment is all but a done deal, tattling tipsters tell Frank Holder’s HumorMillmag.com. Of course, that doesn’t mean he isn’t in for a little friendly competition. Don Mischer, who joins Ratner as this year’s other Oscar producer, has been approached by several other big names who have expressed interest in the hosting duties. Ironically, Crystal, who hosted the awards show eight times between 1990 and 2004, is also rumored to be in the running.
Keep your eyes and ears open for an update. Ratner is said to be meeting with the Academy board members on Tuesday and a decision about the host is reportedly expected by mid-September.
The 84th Annual Academy Awards is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2012.
