Ed Helms is known for his comedic acting and now fans will soon know him for something completely different. Some actors have had success with it and others go completely unnoticed, but he is the latest to pursue music in addition to film.

In some cases, actors are mocked for the music they put out and people wish they would simply stick to acting, but whether Ed Helms will have success as a musician will be determined after we hear his music since some have been known to have success in both areas.

Helms and two of his friends, Ian Riggs and Jacob Tilove, started a band called The Lonesome Trio in college, and now it sounds as if they are finally ready to release the first album.

Here is a video of the three of them playing that was recorded in 2009.

Although none of their music has been released yet, the sound that will appear on their debut album has been described as unique, blending acoustic folk, bluegrass, and lovelorn country with warm-hearted, often slyly funny lyrics.

Ed Helms plays guitar and banjo while Riggs is on bass and Tilove plays the mandolin. The album will be self-titled and released on Sugar Hill records, a label that is home to folk and bluegrass acts such Sarah Jarosz, Donna The Buffalo, Nickel Creek, and Sam Bush.

The album will be released on June 16th and prior its release, the band will play a handful shows all over the country:

June 4th — Alexandria, Virginia at the Birchmere
June 6th — New York City at Rockwood Music Hall’s Stage Two
June 7th — Nashville’s Third & Lindsley
June 8th — Atlanta’s Terminal West
June 11th — Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Club Passim
June 12th — Chicago’s Space
June 14th — Manchester, Tennessee at Bonnaroo
June 16th — Los Angeles’ Largo at the Coronet

Although this is their first album and many people may not even be aware that Ed Helms is a musician, The Lonesome Trio have previously made high-profile appearances at the Newport Folk Festival, New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall and Los Angeles’ Largo and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

Ed Helms is primarily known for his work in The Office, The Hangover, and a handful of other films, but fans of his work will soon get to hear what he sounds like as a guitar and banjo player when he releases the new album.
