Donny Osmond is the new champion of Dancing With The Stars. The ’70s-era crooner and former teen idol was crowned the winner of the ninth season of the popular ABC program, clutching victory and taking the coveted mirrored trophy after ten weeks of competition — during Tuesday night’s live finale. Donny and pro partner Kym Johnson bested fellow finalists singer/dancer Mya and reality show star Kelly Osbourne, 25.
Mya, now 30, had consistently gotten high marks from the judges for her technical skills and was the scoreboard’s frontrunner going into Tuesday’s finale. At 51, the baby-faced Osmond became the oldest winner ever to nab the mirrored-ball trophy — even beating sister Marie, who came in third when she competed on the ballroom dance competition in 2007.
Donny — a lifelong performer who started in show business as a member of The Osmond Brothers in the 1960s and 1970s — says the show has been the highlight of his career. He was overjoyed at his win, screaming out “Tom! Yeah!” in a nod to host Tom Bergeron, and holding the silver disco ball trophy
Mya also expressed pride at being a part of Dancing: “We are so happy to come this far. I had a broken foot last year and I’m just so happy to have made it to the finals.”
Kelly Osbourne came in third place, in spite of chronic pain in her foot. She couldn’t be happier with her DWTS experience: “It’s been the most beautiful, amazing experience.” She added, “The only thing I really want to say is thank you America. Thank you so much for voting me in each week.”
