So much for an Obama bombshell!
It all started with a message posted to Donald Trump’s Twitter feed on Monday. The real estate magnate and Apprentice honcho promised that Wednesday afternoon would bring a “big announcement” that would rock the tight presidential race between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Trump — one of the founders of the birther movement — even implied that it could threaten the Obama presidency. The Donald declined to elaborate on the topic, but did say:
“It’s going to be very big. I know one thing — you will cover it in a very big fashion.”
It didn’t take long for Gossip Gawkers to start chatting. Rumors started swirling almost immediately, including one from Douglas Kass — a Florida-based investor who often joins Trump as a commentator on the CNBC talk show Squawbox:
“High above the Alps my Gnome has heard that Donald Trump will announce that he has unearthed divorce papers between the Prez and his wife.”
It wouldn’t be the first time we heard that: In Ed Klein’s 2012 book The Amateur, insiders claimed that First Lady Michelle Obama prepared divorce papers after the stress of Barack Obama’s unsuccessful run for a House seat in 2000.
Well, what do you know: It seems that Donald has done the ol’ bait and switch. The actual announcement? Trump will give $5 million to a charity of President Obama’s choice if he releases his college applications and transcripts and passport applications.
So what do you think? Should Donald be making these ultimatums to the President of the United States?
