Is troubled screen star Demi Moore planning to adopt a baby? Well, that depends on who you ask.

Demi — who is in the midst of a divorce from hubby Ashton Kutcher — is reportedly hoping to add to her brood after a tough year that saw a trip to rehab and a feud with her three grown daughters.

A source blabs to Australian tabloid The Day:

“She really wanted to adopt a child with Ashton [Kutcher], but he wasn’t up for it. Now that she’s single and can make her own choices, she’s seriously looking into it.”

Earlier this summer, the blogosphere lit up with whispers that Demi’s girls -— Scout, 20, Tallulah, 16, and 23-year-old Rumer —- are considering seeking a restraining order against their estranged mother. Now we’re hearing that the relationship between Mom and her girls exploded over their continued contact with their stepfather.

A source told RadarOnline:

“The girls have all stayed friends with Ashton, and that is infuriating Demi. Ashton cheating on Demi humiliated her, and when she got out of the relationship she thought she was setting a good example for her daughters, so when they stayed close to Ashton it devastated her.”

After Ashton was caught cheating on their sixth wedding anniversary, Demi tried to make their marriage work but announced in November that she was leaving her husband. Ashton, however, has remained active in the lives of all of his stepdaughters, attending concerts that they’ve performed in and supporting them through their mother’s recent commitment for substance abuse issues.

Demi was taken to a Sherman Oaks hospital Jan. 23, after falling ill during a birthday party at her home in suburban Los Angeles. Her reps continue to insist that she is seeking treatment “for exhaustion and to improve her overall health” in the wake of her split from the alleged philanderer last year.
