Demi Lovato is reportedly living in a sober house in Los Angeles to shield herself from slipping back into her old pattern of addiction.
After a headline-making emotional breakdown that sent her to rehab in October 2010, the 20-year-old X Factor judge is still fighting to win her battle against bulimia, self-mutilation and cocaine. Despite owning a lavish mansion in an upscale section of L.A., Demi has chosen to stay in the unidentified sober living facility on and off since being discharged from a suburban Chicago treatment center in January 2011.
“I wanted to go home after 30 days, but they told me, ‘No, you’re not better.’ I went through 14 hours of therapy every day. It wasn’t fun…There were sessions from seven in the morning until nine at night. It was constant emotional work and exhausting; by the end of the day, all you wanted to do was sleep.”
While depression is no longer a daily cloak for Lovato, she’s been vocal about her struggle to stay on the right path. In 2011, the former Sonny with a Chance star hired a live-in sober coach to help keep her straight.
“She is living with us,” Demi told Britain’s You magazine of the coach, identified only as Sarah. “She watches me and makes sure I eat three meals a day.”
