Disgraced unnyman of late night David Letterman used a portion of last night’s Late Show to extend an apology to his wife Regina and series staff after last week’s bombshell revelation that comedian has had sexual relationships with staffers over the years.

During a Late Show taping yesterday, Dave publicly apologized to his wife for cheating on her before they were married.

Monday’s taping was Letterman’s first since announcing a $2 million attempt to extort him with info over the staff sex secrets last Thursday.

What do you think of this apology, guys? Is he sincere?

“I’m terribly sorry that I put the staff in that position. Inadvertently, I just wasn’t thinking ahead. And, moreover, the staff here has been wonderfully supportive to me, not just through this furor, but through all the years that we’ve been on television and especially all the years here at CBS, so, again, my thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I’ve gotten myself involved in,”
the 62-year-old said Monday.

“Now the other thing is my wife, Regina. She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fix it. And at that point, there’s only two things that can happen: either you’re going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you’re going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me.”

MediaCurves.com recently conducted a study comparing viewers’ ratings of David Letterman’s sex scandal confession and his apology to Sarah Palin last June. Results found that that viewers perceived Letterman’s recent confession as more sincere than his apology to Palin. Letterman scored higher on likeability, believability and sincerity scales when viewers rated his recent confession, compared to his apology to Sarah Palin in June More in depth results can be seen at:

I am glad that Mr. Letterman has owned up to the fact that he has betrayed his wife and staff members, however,so much focus is on Dave’s personal life as I suppose the public rather enjoys a scandl especially if it’s a celebrity,I do think though that a horrible crime has been committed here and we should not forget that the man involved is being charged with extortion,he also obviously has some personal issues mentally as well and this does not excuse his behavior by any means by shifting all of the focus and blame on Mr. Letterman.

The only thing that David Letterman is sorry for is that his actions have finally caught up with him. Does anyone really think he’s serious? His wife would never have gotten a public apology if it had not been for this extortion attempt. I feel so sorry for his wife and kid,

SOOO unimpressed with his apology, and disappointed at what people find humorous. So sad that the moral climate of the day in which we live finds his behaviour acceptable – no big deal, everybody’s doing it, right? The fact that he mixed jokes and lame attempts at humor with an apology and topic that would otherwise be gravely sobering and humiliating, demonstrates his lack of sincerity. He just seems to be caught, and making the most of it.
