Californication star David Duchovny is asking for “respect and privacy” from the public after entering a rehabilitation facility seeking treatment for a sex addiction.

“I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction,” the actor says in a statement to People. “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”

The 48-year-old actor, best known for his starring role on the ’90s science-fiction drama The X-Files. has been married to actress Téa Leoni since 1997. They have two children together, a daughter Madelaine West, 9, and a son Kyd, 6.
