David Archuleta “American Idol” Winner: David Cook “American Idol” Most Talented, E-Poll Says

It’s Archuleta for the win, Idol fans rejoice. American Idol fans have selected baby-faced crooner David Archuleta the crowd favorite to take the crown at next month’s Idol 7 finale as part of a new E-Poll/Reuters survey. Ironically, fans dubbed rival David Cook the season’s “Most Talented Performer.”
Seventeen year old Archuleta was voted the likely winner by 40 percent of “Idol” viewers polled, according to the survey by E-Poll Market Research. The survey, which was conducted last week, polled roughly 1,100 respondents ages 13 and over.
Twenty-five year old David Cook has gained ground with fans and judges with his innovative reworkings of his like “Billie Jean” and “Hello.” Cook trumped Archuleta in the E-Poll survey, gaining 31 percent to 27 percent of the vote when it came down to contestants with the most talent. Irish-born belter Carly Smithson was ranked third most talented.
What do you think of the poll results? Which Idol 7 contestants are your picks for “Most Talented?” or “Most Likely To Win?”

I think little David is adorable and excellent at what he does. But in all honesty, I really don’t think he is more talented than so many that have gone before, he’s just consistantly the same, and has a gift for staying a little more on key.
He’s a cutie to the little girls, and may be a fav of a lot of adults who are aware of the “father” problem, and will get a lot of sympathy & “adorable” votes.
But this IS a talent contest, and far & above the rest is David Cook. He has charisma, knows how to use body language, facial expression, and challenges his voice & range, and is successful to the “inth degree”. Talent is not just vocalizing, its the entire bodily interaction as well, a package deal if you will. I feel he should win the whole shebang.
Much as I like little D.A., talented as he is, I’ll be very disapointed if he wins on the basis of cute and sympathy. If he were 20, 7 inches taller, no little girls, and his dad was not an issue, it’s clear who would win. Charisma wise, the child doesn’t have any yet. I think dear old dad has turned the sweet kid into a pitiful little mouse, and he just doesn’t have any personal room to develope any “self” charisma yet, and the poor kid comes across as a bit of a whipped puppy.
Girls wise, I think Carley is the best, just IMO. Theres something about her that reminds me of Cher a long time ago. I find Syesha to be beautiful as well as a fantastic singer, that young lady is in for a heck of a career. I do wish she hadn’t been compared to Whitney Houston, which would be just about impossible to do by almost ANY singer, professional or not. Whitney, last I heard, is the only singer in history to be capable of singing a full 8 octave range.
We’ve only been able to watch a few seasons of Idol. I’m an artist, and know a bit about turning raw talent into skilled artists (pretty much applies to all artistic fields) and find it incredible that these youngsters can be taken as “raw” material, and turned into the magnificent talents they are by the time the actual competition begins. It’s exhausting, gruelling, they’re under harsh but professional criticism to advance their skills, and the end product is unreal great. Kudo’s to all of them, I love every one of them I’ve seen, and wish only the best to every single one of these great kids!

Teens are voting for archuleta at various times. David Cooks fanbase slightly older and doesn’t vote as often. David Cook should win American Idol NOT Archuletta. Archuletta’s voice is no big deal…it’s all hype. He will never get radio play and the 10 - 13 years olds are voting for him only because he is cute. The show is not a popularity contest. Yes, David Cook definitely should win. He is the one that will bring credibility back to IDOL. He is the one that will sell tickets, and get radio air play. The poll is very skewed. It is a singing competition and Archuleta doesn’t even have the vocal chops, vocal range, or texture in his voice like Cook. David Cook writes songs, and arranges them and emotes. He even has a CD out called Analog Heart that is filled with radio friend hits that he wrote. Archuleta only sings inspirational ballads. Come on this is not the Mickey Mouse Club or star search. He doesn’t even look like an idol, he looks like a 12 year old. It is a joke. He can even hold an articulate interview. David Cook can….. I think Archuleta’s win will NOT bring credibility back to the show. Kelly Clarkson allowed the show to be an initial success, David Cook will keep it running.

I don’t think Archuleta is that great. I really don’t. David Cook is far more talented. Did you hear him belt out those glory notes on Idol Gives Back. David Cook has the better voice.
It should David Cook and Carly Smithson in the Finale becaue they are the only two with the vocal pipes.

David Archuleta has a very limited vocal range for which he does his vocal rift tricks to gain style in his singing voice. This is evident with the same boring and bland performance week after week as if he is singing the same song. With an overly-rehearsed and limited vocal range, Archuleta never goes out of tune. People dub Archuleta as a robo-contestant and Archu-D2 because all his songs sound the same every week. This is also evident when he sings in a group with the AI contestants. In some of the performances, when it was his turn to sing, his voice did not blend in perfectly with the song and the rest of the group because he has his very own range. Clinging to that same range every week is safety net in assuring that vocal mistakes are not committed, thus fooling people into thinking that Archuleta sings flawlessly with his pure voice. The masses think that flawless singing equals idol capability. Well, in fact many award-winning music idols do not sing flawlessly during live performances. Their differing vocal ranges are what enable them to peek the interest of the listeners. If one listens to the STUDIO version of Innocent of David Cook in its entirety, Cook demonstrates several vocal ranges. Cook also demonstrated musical artistry in his performances. To this effect, Cook is 100 million time more talented than Archuleta therefore Cook is more fit to be the American Idol.

Archuleta brings the same performance EVERY time he sings. His voice has an ok tone but limited range, but Cook has more stage presence and more talent and a versitile range with his voice. Archuleta stands there with his hand on his stomach and waves his hand slowly to the audience. He is way too boring for me. If he wins that will prove that American Idol is a popularity competition instead of a talent competition. Too many teen girls HOT & HEAVY for Archuleta. COOK ALL THE WAY. Cook always has great stage performances and actually has personality. Archuleta would be money wasted for any record company and Cook would be money earned.

I think David Archuleta is the best singer but not the best performer! David Cook is not very great because he often gets so pitchy and sometimes out of tune but because of his loud music, it is often neglected.
David Archuleta is still very young and has a lot of time for improvements on the performer aspect of thing. By the age of 25, I bet he’ll be great both ways!
