Danyl Johnson, a 27-year-old schoolteacher from Reading, England, was sent home after auditioning on the British reality hit The X Factor in 2006 — but judge Simon Cowell, and the rest of the UK, was floored by the handsome crooner’s stirring performance of the classic tune “With a Little Help From My Friends” on the talent show last Saturday night.

“Danyl, that was single-handedly the best first audition I’ve ever heard,” an ecstatic Simon said once the education was done singing.

Video of Danyl’s Aug. 22 performance on the series that made a star of platinum-selling recording star Leona Lewis has already amassed 1.2 million hits on YouTube.
