Danny Gokey is hanging up his mic and lacing up his dancing shoes.

The spectacled second runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol — whose dance moves were critically-panned by the Idol judges — will join the cast on the upcoming ninth season of the ABC ballroom reality show Dancing With The Stars, The National Enquirer has learned.

“…He’s convinced he can win it!” says an insider. “Danny may even have to rehearse his dance routines on the road this summer, but the Dancing producers have said they’d work around his schedule.”

Danny will reportedly join DWTS as soonas the Idols Live Summer Tour wraps up in September. According to The Enquirer spy, the 29-year-old Milwaukee native will dedicate his run on Dancing to the memoy of his late wife, Sophia, who passed away of cogenital heart failure just four weeks before Danny auditioned for Idol.

“He wants to raise money and awareness for Sophia’s Heart, the charitable foundation he started as a tribute to her,” The Enquirer reports. “That’s Danny’s chief motive for doing the dance show.”

I like this guy & think he's taken an awful lot of undeserved bashing on the web. He certainly had one of the best voices on AI this year. If he wants to do something to promote his foundation, more power to him. How shallow & cruel are the idiots who hate him for daring to speak about his late wife who isn't even gone a year yet.

Let's be honest and stop all the bashing. How anyone can even "comment" on Danny Gokey's personal life is BEYOND ME. He was a contestant for American Idol – and a DAMN good one. Frankly, if anybody out there had an ear that knew pitch and voice – would have seen that he is a natural, can sing his pants off – and SHOULD have won, because he deserved it… nothing to do with his deceased wife… of which he simply spoke honorably. Boy what the hell has happened to people that they can't see the talent and sincerity in a person and always like to go for the jugular – what, maybe to start a story – or is that someone who can look in the mirror and find no fault with themself. Either way, Danny is a great guy and MAN can he wail. I hope on Dancing with the Stars – those of you out there, like myself, will vote for him and give him your all – because he puts his heart into whatever he does – you can tell that. The fact that he was dealing with grief…. hey any of you tried that – burying a loved one then entering a competition. Let her rest in peace and allow Danny to chanel his emotions to a new song.. a new dance. Danny, you are one hell of a singer and I know you will be MY FAVORITE on Dancing with the Stars – because of your humor and courage under the most difficult of situations. On a lighter note, to win, you WILL have to dance your ass off – and most of the american women out there are waiting to see that! Good Luck.
