Dakota Fanning has been offered the role of a vampire in the upcoming sequel to the 2008 blockbuster Twilight.

The 14-year-old actress is in discussions to play bloodsucker “Jane” opposite Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in New Moon, according to celebrity columnist Marc Malkin.

“There were no auditions. They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations.”

Filming on the film based on the hit literary franchise by Stephanie Meyer is scheduled to begin in Italy this Spring.

I think she would make a great Jane.

Lets face it, the girl is so freaking talented! To me, she's a really good actress, so she could play jane's character.

They should be careful casting Dakota Fanning for New Moon, she might steal the show

I'm sorry, but Dakota playing Jane is a mistake in my head. In the book New Moon, Jane is discribed as a small girl (she fits that), with an angel face (I guess you can give her that). Then they go on to say that she has boy short hair and it's brown. In all the things I've read about Dakota they keep saying that Jane is a blond. SHES NOT!!! I do think that she'll steal the show. Twilight had a lot of actors who weren't known as well, Dakota doesn't fit into that cataroy. She didn't even have to try out. I don't know, there are all these rumers about New Moon. It's becoming a little to dramatic. I'm Anti-Dakota…

I don't think she should play jane. I get that she's small and if she dyed her hair it could work. But i don't think it's right that she didn't even have to audition. She should have auditioned just like every one else. Plus, i think that the entire volterri should be played by "unknowns" I can't, and don't want to see famous people playing the volterri. i just don't like it.

I think anyone being an idiot about Dakota playing Jane needs to stop. Seriously. She is super super talented and has every right to be in this movie. Just because she didn't have to audition doesn't mean she should give up her part. If she actually is in it. Also spell your words right if you're going to trash her it takes away from anyone's argument if you can't spell.

Furthermore her hair doesn't matter. It's called a wig. Ashley Greene has hair down to her back but nobody started crying about that when she got the role of Alice. And also Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were not complete unknowns. They just had smaller parts in huge movies.

I'm all for Dakota playing Jane. I think she's talented enough to not need to worry about her looks to get a role. If you had someone who looked exactly like Jane was described in the book who couldn't act you would probably be pretty grumpy. So leave her alone.

I think that dakota fanning wld be an excellent jane. She is a very talented actress. Seeing her skills in the movie push I think that she cld accomplish the menacing and sidistic ways of jane. But one thing is for sure, she either needs to cut and die her hair, or definately get a wig lol

I think Dakota is too famous for this movie!

    She might steal the Show!

    What about AnnaSophia Robb ?

    She IS Jane!

I have no problems with Dakota Fanning playing Jane, but for real, wouldn't Jodelle Ferland be a great Jane? I'd love it!

Maybe Abigail Breslin, too, but she's just too innocent in my opinion. I don't think she could ever play a blood sucking monster. :].

So yeah. My vote goes to Jodelle but my back up is deffinitely Dakota.

I'm tottaly on board with this girl, you really need a quality actress to play a roll like jane and really, how many girls that age have HER edge? and she would look awesome in a pixie haircut

I'm more concerned about who they'll get to play Jacob. Going by how he is described in the book; 6'5 muscular and sexy, that young boy for twilight won't cut it. Unless he had a serious growth spert.

People! People! This is Dakota Fanning we are talking about! She is one the best actresses ever! Get off her back! When I read the books I imagined someone who looked exactly like Dakota only with a pixie haircut! She's perfect!

Also… did you see the pictures of her?! Terrifying yet innocent! You can't get a better actress than her! I mean… would rather it was Vanessa Hudgens?!

What do I think? Well, I think people who complain about someones hair colour should grow an imagination. Don’t rely on the details from a book. Like come on. Many details change between books and movies, and you shouldn’t get so hung up over something so silly. Dakota was FABULOUS in this role. I didn’t even know it was her until 2 weeks after I watched the movie and asked a coworker who the “new” actress was.

What do you think?
