I find it quite amusing people bitching over Carrie and Taylor. I know for a fact if you ask them they would gladly and reluctantly give George and all the other true pioneers in modern country music. I live breathe and die country music, and I believe that guys like Jones, Cash, Haggard, Jackson, Strait, Travis are country music. I also believe that Underwood, Swift, Paisley, Shelton and some of today’s stars have done a lot for country music. They have actually saved country music from going down the tubes thanks to many of the cookie cutter country singers of the 90′s. To those with the inconsiderate remarks about Jones and his wife beating etc, why don’t you shut up and go listen to elevator music or something. To sum up, I don’t think artists are to blame for the unfortunate and uncalled for snubbing of the legends of country music, its the big name record companies. Carrie Underwood has to be one of the most classy woman to have become as successful as she has and so quickly, yet remain true to herself and her faith in God. She highly respects other artists and even commented than she didn’t take George Jones statements as personal attacks against her. I love country music, whether its Hank Williams or Brad Paisley, Tammy Whynette or Carrie Underwood. Country music has always been one big family, lets keep it that way!

Gorge Jones comes from an era when country music sucked muskrat balls. And his music was the suckiest of it all. A total bore. He needs to STFU. You can choose to listen to Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, that’s great that they have fans. Carrie Underwood is an EXTREMELY talented singer and my husband is obsessed with her.

But they are NOT country singers, they are pop singers who (maybe) like country music. Just like Lady Antebellum. Just because you sing about heartache does NOT make you a country singer. I’m 22 and I don’t even listen to the ‘Country’ radio anymore because there is so much light rock and pop. Not that I care so much that I hate it, it’s just when I want to listen to country music, I want to listen to counrty music.

And to disrespect George Jones – WOW you clearly know NOTHING about country music. At all. Go listen to this music on the POP radio so those of us who like country can continue to listen to it!

George Jones is one of the best country singers there has ever been. HEY TAYLOR AND CARRIE…go try to make it in the pop genre. You guys are just like Lady Antebellum and Sugarland. You couldn’t make it in the pop genre so you just slipped right in and are ruining country music. All of you people on here saying George is jealous HAVE NO CLUE WHAT COUNTRY MUSIC IS AND ARE MAJOR POSERS. <3 ya., George…hope you get your message thru someday. No doubt George Strait agrees you could see it on his face all through the awards.

Carrie Underwood does not act country, dress country or look country – she is a POP singer and does not deserve to be part of the Country genre.
Neither does she read music, write music or understand music – she sings, thats it period and belongs in the same genre of any other pop singer like Hannah Montanna. same for SWIFT!!!

I am 20 years old, and although I am growing up in the time of Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, as well as many other new pop country figures, I agree with everyone else here who supports the Old Timers. George Jones is a great, true country musician. His hit, The Race is On, is one of country’s most famous songs, and I probably listen to it at least once a week or more (the original version played on Hee Haw, ofc). I notice you all are calling him a drunk. And you know what, he was a drunk. But so was brother Hank, Merle, Conway, etc. George is legendary for using a lawn tractor to get to the bar because his wife took his car keys (this is a famous even in country, as mentioned in Vince Gills song One More Last Chance when he says ‘Well she might of took my car keys, but she forgot about my ole John Deere). And also, open yer ears, country music is about trains, trucks, women, and gettin drunk! I will never support any of these slutty chick rock/pop country figures like Taylor and Carrie Underwood. I like COUNTRY music. REAL country music!!!

How dare some of you defane george jones’s name he is one of the people who made country music, What george is saying is when is the last time you heard a crying steel guitar or a wining fiddle on a country record. That was country music singing your pain, ive always said country music came from poverty, picking cotton and raising your brothers and sister, taylor, carrie etc have never experienced that.

Do you really think taylor could compete against lady gaga etc that is why she used country music and now she has ruined it

Calling someone like Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift a country singer, is like calling Green Day or The Rolling Stones a bluegrass band. Maybe Bill Monroe and Grandpa Jones should be labeled as rap artists.

George Jones is country. Carrie Underwood is not. This is a fact and its not up for debate. Yes, country music – REAL country music – has evolved over the years. Obviously, Buck Owens had a sound completely different than Jimmie Rodgers. But at its heart, it was always still country music.

The stuff they call country today is NOT country music. That’s all George Jones was trying to say when he made that comment (and newsflash..its not like this is the first time George has made a comment like this…he was saying stuff like this on Nashville Now 20 years ago).

If you like Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift. that’s great. Variety is the spice of life. If you want to go out and by their CD’s and watch their music videos or go see them in concert, I think that’s awesome. Good for you, to each their own. BUT THEY ARE NOT COUNTRY SINGERS!!!

Now, for some of you illiterate folks on this thread that don’t know how to post a comment without resorting to foul language and name calling, this next part is directed to you: you d*uchebags would not be calling George Jones or any other country legend names to my face, because I would knock you on your @$$.
