“Sunny Days?” Not so much. Most of us have managed to ignore Oscar the Grouch’s infamously foul moods over the past four decades, but Ole Ossie has really managed to get the conservatives a bit grouchy.

PopEater.com reports that conservative bloggers are livid over a 2-year-old Sesame Street sketch re-aired last week, which calls a channel named POX News “trashy.”

“From now on, I’m watching Pox News. Now there’s a trashy news show!” Grundgetta, a bored Muppet viewer, calls into Oscar’s new TV network to complain.

Big Hollywood, a blog created by conservative writer Andrew Breitbart, accuses the episode of revealing PBS’s liberal bias.

“PBS — a network partially funded with my tax dollars — has the right to tell my kids that their parents watch “trashy” news?” he writes of public broadcasting network. “The message is clear, I can’t even sit my kids in front of ‘Sesame Street’ without having to worry about the Left attempting to undermine my authority.”

Sesame Street Workshop spokeswoman Ellen Lewis insists the segment was harmless, branding the sketch “just another one of the many parodies that ‘Sesame Street’ has done over the years.” PBS ombudsman Michael Getler, on the other hand, admits the joke was a bit off-color and believes producers should have used another name in the skit.

“I don’t know what was in the head of the producers, but my guess is that this was one of those parodies that was too good to resist. But it should have been resisted,” Getler writes. “Broadcasters can tell parents whatever they think of Fox or any other network, but you shouldn’t do it through the kids.”

In related news, Sesame Street kicks off its 40th season on television on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
