Arizona Shooting Tragedy: Sophia Bush Gwyneth Paltrow Related To Victims Of Rep. Giffords’ Attemped Assassination

A tragic politically-charged shooting in Arizona over the weekend has a Hollywood connection.

The youngest victim of the shooting spree that ripped through a Tucson supermarket on Saturday is the second cousin of One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush.

“She was my 2nd cousin… Devastating…,” the 28-year-old actress Tweeted on Sunday, in reference to a New York Times article about little Christina Green, 9.

Christina was killed during the weekend massacre, which claimed the lives of six and injured 14, including state congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the alleged target of the crime. Ironically, yesterday’s assasination attempt wasn’t Green’s first connection to tragedy. Christina was born on September 11, 2001. However, she was “proud” of her historic birthday because “it lent a grace note of hope to that terrible day.”

“There are no words to explain what my cousin’s family is going through in Arizona,” Sophia later added. “How can this be? Violence is never the answer…”

Rep. Giffords is a distant cousin of Country Strong actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The pair have never met, but Gwyn sent her prayers to Giffords, who remains hospitalized in critical condition following a point-blank gunshot to the head.

“Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting congresswoman Giffords, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as well as the other victims of this horrible act of senseless violence,” Paltrow said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight.
