The intolerant little queen best known as Clay Aiken has issued an “apology” to this season’s American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert. Aiken — a Idol Season 2 runner-up — has retracted some of his off-color criticism of fan favorite Lambert, who lost the title to crooner Kris Allen on last week’s finale.

In a blog posted on Thursday, Clay suggested that Adam’s performance of Johnny Cash’ Ring of Fire from earlier in the Idol season was “contrived, awful, and slightly frightening” and nearly made his “ears bleed.”

“Since my previous blog got dissected like a biology lab frog, I suppose I should clarify and even retract some of what I wrote,” Clay wrote on his Official Web Site on Friday.

“I hope no one actually believed that blood truly poured forth from my ears when I heard him. I obviously meant it as a colorful statement to imply that I did not enjoy what I heard,” he added.

“He could not have gotten on ‘Idol’ (nor made it as far as he did) without an immense amount of talent. He surely doesn’t need my approval to know he has a gift,” Clay wrote of Adam. “I imagine he’ll be around for years to come.”

“God knows, I am SURE there are PLENTY of people who can’t stand to hear me sing either. I wouldn’t dream of assuming that, and I am sure that far worse things have been said about my performances than I would even venture to type here,” he wrote. “To me, that’s fine. I don’t expect unanimous, nor even majority support for my music. My guess is Adam doesn’t either.”

Finally, Clay offered an apology to Adam.

“So, I do apologize to Adam for my colorful (and negative) choice of words. I hope he can forgive me,” he wrote. “I imagine he doesn’t give a damn! :-) God knows he shouldn’t.”

CLAY is way out of line in this. He should know better. I initially was warming up to Clay but right now, i so am NOT into Clay. Bad Clay!

Between the 2 i like Adam a lot, he can sing, has style and persona. Not only that, he is nice and gracious. Doesn’t say a mean word about anyone.

Good Luck to Adam Lambert! Will continue to include you in my prayers. Fly high and soar!

I used to admire you Clay, but not anymore. What a hateful comment about Adam. He is VERY talented and he WAS the best on the show from day one. He lost because of his sexual orientation…..by the way, so did you!!

I sure hope its ok to disagree with the majority here. Clay’s statement about Adam’s version of Ring of Fire was no worse than many things said by Idol’s judges about all kinds of performers. I for one thought the performance was very strange. Even stranger was that I kinda liked it but would never ever purchase it or actively seek to hear it again. Clay on the other hand is an outstanding performer and sings with style and class all the time. I just don’t understand what’s becoming of us…so many are increasingly intolerant of anyone with a contrary opionion. I find the hateful and angry responses to such opinions disturbing and scary.

I am really glad to see that Clay apologized to Adam for what he said. I have been a Clay fan for a long time now……& his negative comments about one song he didnt like, really irritated me. If he would have watched him all season, he would have seen how very talented he is, & not make a comment like that over hearing one song, & not watching the show any more. That was totally wrong for him to do, & I’m sure he pissed off alot of people with those comments. I’m happy to see that he turned that around, so I’m not as irritated with him any more. People can screw up at times, at least he made an attempt to fix his screw up. Good for him!

Everyone has a right to their opinion. That being said, Clay was someone I thought was classy but since American Idol, my good thoughts about him are decreasing by the minute. Yeah, he has a good singing voice, so does Adam, so does Allison, so does Kris (which I am SO glad he won!)…but the point being, you’re not going to make it to the top two or three without a good voice so instead of Clay smashing Adam he should’ve had enough class to congraulate him on making it in the top two and complain to his closest friend (that way maybe it wouldn’t be front page news in ‘Gay-Land’). Clay, get some class and get over it!
